ABOUT AFO

The first half of the AFO course (Day 1) is completed online at your convenience in the comfort of your home or office. You can complete all the chapters at once or save your work over several days. You will need to complete all the chapters and receive your Record of Completion prior to starting the second half (Day 2) of the AFO course. The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification will provide you with the skills necessary to make your facility safer and more cost efficient. This two-day course provides information on mechanical and chemical equipment, staff training and risk management aspects for all types of aquatic facilities from stand-alone swimming pools to multi-feature waterparks.

How to Become an AFO 

To become an AFO, you must successfully pass the AFO exam. The AFO exam is 50 questions and covers four core competencies: water chemistry and disinfection, mechanical systems and operations, health, safety, and daily operations. The exam is an open-book exam, and AFO candidates must achieve a score of 78 percent or higher to pass. AFO certification is valid for five years.
